Write for Your Life offers practical advice and productivity tips for writers of all shapes and sizes: novelists, bloggers, poets and journalists. Anyone who works with words.
Life gets in the way for most writers. Whether it’s the kids, the family finances or the full-time job, there’s often a sacrifice that needs to be made. And that sacrifice is usually the writing.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Write for Your Life can help you find time for your writing and those things that you just have to do.
And if you like the sound of that, subscribe for free email updates right now!
My name is Iain Broome and I’m an author, copywriter, editor, blogger and spoken-word night organiser from Sheffield, in England.
I write fiction and recently completed my first novel as part of Sheffield Hallam’s acclaimed MA Writing course. In the last five years, I’ve also edited a literary magazine (twice) and co-founded Words Aloud, a successful monthly open-mic event for creative writing.
Now, I know that sounds a bit like I’m showing off, but I’m not.*
I mention it because it’s a real challenge to do all that and hold down a full-time job. See, I can’t pick and choose when I write fiction because I have to work. And because I’m a copywriter, it’s often hard to summon the strength to get home and spend yet more time in front of the computer screen.
I set up Write for Your Life because I know that there are thousands of other writers in a similar position. In one way or another, we all have to find the balance between writing and real life. But it doesn’t have to be a constant battle. It can be done.
The first step is admitting that, sometimes, your writing will have to wait. Then it’s just a case of finding and adopting techniques that allow you to create time to write… and make the most of it.
And that’s where Write for Your Life comes in.
* Okay, maybe a little bit.
