Acquisitions Meetings

Nicola Morgan has posted an excellent overview of how and why books are bought by publishers:

For you, the aspiring writer, or me, the one who wants to continue to be published (please), it is very helpful (though uncomfortable) to know how the decision is made.

One of the most difficult things to get your head around is that your book may be totally brilliant, but won’t get taken on because of something seemingly trivial, like foreign rights or something. But of course, all these things must be considered, and as writers we need to be armed with as much information as possible. Go read.
