Amazon Launches The Backstory

Looks like Amazon have a little something in store for us:

Amazon has launched a new content hub for its Books area, called The Backstory. The content destination includes interviews with authors, guest reviews, authors’ favorite playlists, recipes, podcasts, essays and more.

I think this is pretty interesting. While Amazon’s Kindle is fantastic for reading, it lacks the possibilities that come with, say, a standalone iPad app. I’d wager that The Backstory is a first step towards Amazon providing content beyond ebooks – the equivalent of DVD extras, if you like.

I’d also reckon on them launching, in the not too distant future, a version of the Kindle that is much more tablet than it is ereader. If Amazon could somehow bridge that gap – to build a device that offers a great reading experience as well as all the extras, they’d be laughing. So long as they could keep the price down.
