Wireframing My Fiction
Interesting writing technique from fellow Read & Trust member, Aaron Mahnke.
Like Aaron, I also use wireframes at work, where I organise and write content for websites. But it’s not something I’ve done with my fiction before. It sounds pretty good to me:
It’s not outlining; this is free-flowing, stream of consciousness stuff. There are no lists, no indentations, no order other than the next sentence moving the story along to the next point … I repeat this as far as my inspiration can take me. I don’t care about spelling, or eloquence, or grammar. I am simply leaving breadcrumbs that I will follow on my next pass through the chapter.
I did a lot of writing-as-I-went when I wrote my first novel. As I start working on the second, I’m looking to use as many techniques like this as possible.
I want to try and make sure that when I sit down, I know exactly where I left off and what needs doing next. It’s so, so hard to work like that consistenly though. Fingers crossed.
